Steve Tierney

Steve Tierney is an Australian mixed media artist and designer known for his engaging collages, assembled from images cut out of old magazines from the 1940s and 1950s. Born in 1976, Tierney grew up in the south coast suburbs of Sydney, Australia. He has lived between Australia and Oaxaca, Mexico since 2013.

Tierney’s works initially appear as firm graphic images. On closer inspection, they are more detailed, multi-layered and part of a deeper level of thought and self-analysis. Accompanied by a broader critique of popular culture and social issues. A passion for collecting old magazines and looking for thrown away objects, coupled with his sense of humor, has resulted in a unique aesthetic and vision.

He has had solo and group exhibitions internationally, including Australia, Mexico, Japan, USA and Italy, and is a member of the Sydney Collage Society. His work has been published in several international collage books and he frequently creates commissioned pieces for editorial magazines, music album covers and skateboard graphics.
